Brown's Wrecker Service has provided towing in central Illinois since 1955, when James Brown Jr. returned from the Korean War and joined his father in the family towing business; a fifth generation is now entering the company. Based on Brown Street in Bloomington, the company offers towing, recovery, and road service along with vehicle storage for cars, boats, and RVs, radiator sales and service, and monthly sealed-bid vehicle consignment auctions. The storage yard spans more than 55,000 square feet outside and 3,000 square feet inside, with fencing, lighting, and security cameras. Operators hold CDL licenses with hazmat endorsements and CPR training. The company has received the ACE Award, recognition as one of the 500 Most Experienced Towing Companies, induction into the Illinois Route 66 Hall of Fame, and a Beautification Award from Bloomington's Citizens Beautification Committee.
