New Orleans-area ship-assist towing tracing back to 1890, now part of Moran
Bisso Towboat Co., Inc. built its reputation on ship-assist towing along the Lower Mississippi River, with roots in the New Orleans region dating back to 1890. Like its longtime counterpart Moran Towing, which has operated in New Orleans since 2006, Bisso was family-owned and employee-focused throughout its history. As of July 1, 2026, Bisso Towboat Co., Inc. officially merged into Moran Towing Corporation, combining the two companies' operations under the Moran name while keeping the same captains, crew, and points of contact serving customers out of New Orleans. The tug Capt. Joseph Bisso, an ASD tractor tug rated at 6,008 horsepower, now sails as part of the combined fleet. Existing contracts and service relationships carried over to Moran following the merger.
