City-run lot holding vehicles towed from Minneapolis streets
The Minneapolis Impound Lot, run by the City of Minneapolis at 50 Van White Memorial Boulevard, is where vehicles towed from city streets are taken and stored. Owners or relatives with the same last name can retrieve a vehicle by paying fees and showing proof of insurance, current registration, a license plate number or VIN, and photo identification. Standard tow charges run $222, with an $18 daily storage rate, while heavy-duty tows cost $224.50 plus $124.50 per half-hour of winch time. The lot holds vehicles for reasons including illegal parking, police orders, snow emergency violations, and abandonment, and it will not release vehicles with five or more unpaid citations until fines are paid. Hours extend during snow emergencies, and the lot hosts monthly public and dealer vehicle auctions.
